I’m back this week with another local retail option to help with your holiday shopping! If you spend any time around Raleigh you’ve seen your share of Holly Aiken Bags. Professionals are toting them from meeting to meeting, Moms sport the diaper bag packed full, and 20-something gals take them to the bars on the weekend. These versatile bags are easily identified by their colored vinyl, black webbing, and visible stitching…. the store is called “Stitch”, after all. Last time I visited the store, her sweet yellow lab was hanging out – bonus!
“Launched in 2004, Holly has remained true to her original vision to provide uncomplicated bags using distinctive, indestructible materials. Influenced by colors found in dime store isles and vintage racing jackets, Holly’s bags are primarily made from vinyl and bold black webbing trim, accented by stripes or crisp geometric shapes. Her color palette is slightly retro and always just right. Every one of Holly’s bags is made in North Carolina and has been lovingly constructed with precision and care to withstand the daily grind.” -HA Website
The bags range in size from large computer bags and diaper bags, to tiny clutches and even wallets. You can also custom design your very own Holly Aiken Bag. In the grand scheme of bag prices, Holly’s designs are reasonably priced, and you’re paying for a well-made item that will last for years to come. I’ve had a design similar to this one for five years and it’s literally in just as good condition as the day I bought it. That brings me to my favorite thing about these bags…. they’re SO easy to clean. You know when you take your purse to a concert or sporting event, place it under your seat, and someone spills a drink a few rows up and the bottom of your bag ends up sticky? Easy fix with a Holly Aiken bag! They clean right up with soap and water, rubbing alcohol, or a spray bleach cleaner for the really tough messes.
Shop for Holly Aiken Bags at her store, Stitch, on the corner of Hargett St. and Wilmington St. in Downtown Raleigh or online at hollyaiken.com. She recently opened a store on Eastwood in Wilmington (on the left if you’re headed on to Wrightsville). Shop on, beach friends!
Just in case you were wondering, this one is currently my favorite. : )
