Amanda Starkey here! You’re thinking “Whaaaat? Wrong Starkey.” No sir, we’re a two-man show!
Since Kevin and I started dating several years ago, I’ve always taken great interest in not only the Real Estate industry, but specifically the growth of Kevin’s Real Estate business. Over the years we often discussed how fabulous it would be if someday we could work together. We have such different skill-sets, so we knew if we could ever make it happen, it would provide our clients with a 100% full-service experience. In early 2014 the discussion shifted from if to when. We knew we wanted to team up, but when was the right time? Could we temporarily live on the equivalent of one-income? What about insurance? What if we get on each others nerves? What if, What if, What if?!
And perhaps the biggest question – could I leave a career I loved? You see, for the past 8 years I’ve worked in non-profit fundraising and loved it. I loved keeping donors happy. I really loved planning events. I loved seeing volunteers fulfilled by their work. I loved connecting donors with projects that excited them. And whether I loved it or not, I was really quite good at the organization aspect. It was a field that suited me. But all good things come to an end, and organizational changes led me to the difficult decision to leave the organization and position I loved so much. Could this be the time for Team SoldByStarkey? I was just too scared of all the “What ifs” to take the leap, so I accepted a position with another organization. Well as luck would have it, I’d already planned to join Kevin at the NC Association of Realtors Conference. After a couple days of great conversations and the wheels in my head spinning through the various sessions we attended, we made the decision that the when was now. I started Real Estate school the following Monday.
We didn’t (and still don’t, for that matter) have all the answers to those questions about income, insurance, etc – but for the first time ever, I took a risk. With every hour of hard work and planning, the risk feels a little less risky.
We’re only half joking when we refer to my new title as “Chief Organization & Creativity Officer” of Team SoldByStarkey. And my new job description? “Help your friends – past, present, and future – find their Home-Sweet-Home!” Yep, I can get on board with that. : )
Blogging is a little more my forte than Kevin’s so expect to hear more from the SoldByStarkey blog going forward. I plan to bring content at least weekly, varying between Real Estate related topics on #MarketMonday, whatever my little heart desires (music, sports, movies, news, etc) on #WhateverWednesday, and showcase our favorite Triangle businesses on #FavoriteFriday.
Be patient with us as we get everything switched over to reflect the new partnership. We’re getting there… one step at a time.
